Whales Are Big!

Bournemouth University & BFX Festival Winning Project

2024

Whales Are Big! This was a project that my team and I submitted to the BFX Festival (2024), which won us three of four festival prizes! It felt amazing to be able to produce work for a charity organisation, being the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Organisation. The WDC sent us a script which my team and I then developed into a 30 second advert.

BFX Festival Prices: 1st Place Overall Winner, 1st Place in Character Animation, 1st Place in Art & Design

I was responsible for producing the character assets, lighting and final comp as well as the editing for the underwater transitional shots.

Whales Are Big! - Transition Experiment

This was an experimental shot we developed during the first week of the project timeline. The team and I wanted to experiment with creating a transitional shot that would move the camera beneath the ocean's surface to reveal our whale characters. For this experiment, I was responsible for editing the two shots together (above and under the ocean's surface) to create the impression of one continuous shot. I was also responsible for developing the character assets and rendering the scenes in Maya.

Duel

Bournemouth University - Final Master's Project

2024

Shhhvvoooom! Duel is an obvious homage to Star Wars as well as a few other references to samurai media such as the works of Akira Kurosawa as well as Blue Eye Samurai. The project was submitted as my final Master's project earning me a distinction! In this project, my team and I experimented with motion capture technology as well as real-time rendering in Unreal Engine 5.

I was responsible for producing the Ronin character asset as well as acting as the overall Producer for the project. I was also responsible for compositing in NukeX.

Duel - Motion Capture Footage

Please enjoy our motion capture performance footage for Duel. It was an incredible experience to be able to use the Sound Stage and motion capture gear at Bournemouth University. A big thank you to Anthony Sarmiento for his ceaseless editing of all our reference footage during the course of this project. You can find his work at:

Moddey Dhoo

Bournemouth University - Master's Group Project

2024

Moddey Dhoo was a short film I developed as part of a 6 week group project during my Master's Degree. The film was based upon the Manx folklore of the Moddey Dhoo, a great spectral hound that stalks the grounds of Peel Castle, a ruined Viking fortress.

I was responsible for storyboarding, directing, rigging, character animation and editing.

Rockin' Robin

BFX Christmas Ident

2023

Rockin' Robin! This rockin lil' dude was my submission to the 2023 BFX animation jam. The goal was to produce a Christmas ident for Bournemouth University using the audio file featured in the clip. Look at him go!

Rendered in Maya Arnold. Produced using Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter & Substance Designer.

I was responsible for all aspects.

Kelpie

Norwich University of the Arts - Final Project

2022

A sea-dwelling Kelpie encounters a strange new addition to the ocean-floor...

This was my final film I developed during my last year at Norwich University of the Arts. I am very happpy with the outcome of this project and what me and my vfx collaborator Caroline Rouge managed to accomplish with this film. You can find links to her socials here:

I was responsible for storyboarding, rigging, animation, modelling, texturing, editing and sound design.

Journey

Norwich University of the Arts & Sumo Digital Project

2022

I modelled and textured this spaceship interior as part of an art test for Sumo Digital. It was a really fun challenge trying to figure out how to popuate this environment with practical and functional objects. In addition to rendering the environment in Maya Arnold, I also imported the model and textures into Unreal Engine 4. I am really pleased with the outcome of this project though there is still plenty of room for improvement!

D&AD New Bloods Awards

Walkers Breif

2022

I created this short animated sequence which was used to promote a media campaign my collaborators and I developed for Walkers. We produced this piece for the D&AD New Bloods Awards. Rendered in Maya Arnold.

I was responsible for modelling, texturing, rigging, animation, editing and compositing.

The 13th Principle

Norwich University of the Arts - 2nd Year Final Project

2022

This was a short film I created in collaboration with some of the students in my Animation course. We were each tasked with creating a short animated sequence exploring our own "principle" of animation. I created a short segment based on the idea of "support" - something all creators need. I was responsible for producing the models and animation of the last shot in the film (aside from the Dana rig!), as well as managing most of the sound design across the film.

Sugar Rush

Norwich University of the Arts

2021

A lone sugar cube comes to life one night. Little does it know of what hides in the shadows...

This was a university project I developed during my second year at Norwich University of the Arts. I was tasked with creating a short film about two inanimate objects which come to life during the night. I had to make sure the film was set on an animator's desk, and at least one of my characters had to be a coffee cup.

I was responsible for all aspects of the film.
